The Virginia Bass Forum’s Two Year Birthday Bash

We’ve got some great things planned for May 15th. And the party keeps getting bigger and better…here’s some breaking news on the Bass Forum’s 2-year birthday party.

First off, we celebrate our new partnership with Fredericksburg Academy. I’m sending a huge thank you to Fredericksburg Academy and their Music Department for hosting and partnering with the Virginia Bass Forum.

So to help Fredericksburg Academy benefit from this partnership, I ask that you please bring a few dollars with you to donate to the FA Band Boosters. They will have a concessions table set up with food and drink for sale. They will also be selling jewelry created by a friend of mine; April Tos of Corvus Creations. April has her own unique spin on recycling. She takes used bass and guitar strings and creates one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces from them. She’s offered to split all of the proceeds from her jewelry sales with the FA Band Boosters.

We’re going to kick things off at 3 PM with a clinic with Bryan Beller. This is definitely a “hands-on” clinic, so bring your bass. Bryan is going to take participants through learning songs by ear. I saw this clinic at Bass Boot Camp and it was very interactive and a lot of fun. You are welcome to bring either an electric bass or an upright bass to participate.

We are going to have a potluck dinner after the clinic ends (so please bring a dish to share!). During the dinner hour, we have added a Bass Open Mic/Open Jam. Several people have asked if we were going to do another concert like we did in 2010 for the one-year birthday bash. Since a good portion of the bass community will already be together, this seemed like a great opportunity to get local bassists up and performing. We will have 2 bass rigs set up, a vocal mic, and a drum set. I’d love to see a mix of student performances and jams by local bass instructors.

The dinner break will also be a great time to pick up CDs from Bryan and Kira. Both of them have new CDs out, and Bryan will be releasing a new DVD.

At 6:30, we will wind down the Bass Open Mic/Open Jam. Kira Small and Bryan Beller will have a house concert at that point. We can settle in to finish off the evening with lovely, sultry vocals and R&B music. And Bryan has been known to throw in the occasional solo bass piece. Solo bass meets sexy R&B. Sounds like a nice finish to the evening to me! Haven’t heard them play? Oh my…you owe it to yourself to click the link below. This is Bryan and Kira performing at WesFest 5:

So…how cool is that? A clinic, dinner, a bass open mic, and a house concert.
